어느때인가 아마도 채널을 무심코 돌리다 AFKN에서인가에서 멈췄을 때

이 여 가수의 음악이 흘러나왔다. This War is Over... 그 호소력 짙은 목소리가 절규하고

있었으며 그녀의 온 몸은 흐느적거리고 있었다.

아... This War Is Over 를 저리도 갈구하는가 싶은 느낌이었다. 재니스 조플린이 문득

생각난 것도 사실이었고. (블루스 락이니 그럴 수밖에...)

그 곡을 찾으러 돌아다니다 다시 구하지 못하고 유일하게 레코드점에 있던 앨범이

바로 이 곡이 들어 있는 Yes I Am 앨범이었다.

그녀에게 두번째의 그래미와 대 성공을 가져다 준 이 앨범으로 그녀는 확고한

자리를 잡았다고 한다. (나도 주워들은 얘기임)

그리고 이 앨범에서 제일 맘에 들었던 곡이 바로 이 곡이었다. 깅수는 사실 내질러주는

여자 가수들을 굉장히 좋아하는데 이 곡도 그런 느낌을 잘 충족시켜주는 곡이라고나 할까.

가슴 가득한 아픔, 이 우울함, 편안한 안식처를 버리고 떠나는 것, 사람들이 무어라고

하든 나는 상관하지 않고 행동하는 것 모두가 당신에게 다가가기 위해서라는 내용 속에

담긴 사랑, 아픔, 의지...

블루스 락이라는 오래된 장르에서 자신만의 노래를 묵묵히 부르며, 또한 몇 안되는

커밍아웃을 당당히 선언한 여가수로서 그녀의 목소리가 시원하고도 가슴 깊이 다가오는

이 노래가 좋다.
